Joy Inside

Counseling and Psychotherapy

"The Adlerian therapist acts as an encourager, helping the client become actualized by becoming an active agent in their own life... by stimulating our feelings of personal worth and connection." Lynn Lott
My Psychotherapy roots are in the teachings of Alfred Adler, a contemporary of Jung and Freud. Adler presented a humanistic and common sense point of view. Adler's Individual Psychology was based on the premise that all people are inherently good and capable of personal fulfillment. He taught that we are all social beings looking for belonging and significance in our lives. We are in control of our own actions but, are often unaware of beliefs (decisions) that keep us from fully recognizing and utilizing our own individual strength and powers. This approach allows that people are decision-making beings, responsible for their own behavior and capable of changing it.

My work supports individuals in strenthening relationship with Self and relationship with others. With insight about how we take our place in the world we become free to change limiting beliefs and fill our lives with self actualizing, meaningful activity. I assist people in whatever life areas they may be struggling or seeking growth.
My clients and I form a therapeutic team with the task of developing whatever skills the client seeks and integration of mind, body and spirit to accomplish the client's goals. Mutual respect is a core component of my work. I utilize a number of modalities in addition to the Individual Psychology of Adler. Some of these include art/collage, sand play, journaling, role play, guided visualization, shamanic journeying, movement, Emotional Freedom Technique and PSYCH-K.
