Joy Inside
Please scroll and peruse this list of gems- my personal favorite books, authors, teachers and some music. Check back often as I add to the list. I would love your feedback on these suggestions, too. Got a favorite of your own? Send me a brief description and I will check it out. Enjoy!

Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver
Kingsolver, her husband and college age daughter, all contributed to this narrative of their year on their Virginia farm, growing their own vegetables, raising poultry, shopping at the farmer’s market and baking their own bread. They offer interesting points of view on such diverse subjects as shopping local, energy conservation, genetic engineering, vegetarianism and raising and eating your own poultry, getting to know your neighbors and hosting a great party. They do all this without seeming the least bit judgmental or “holier than though”.

Whispers in the Wind

Whispers in the Wind
My fellow SpiritSong teacher, Tom Maynard has recorded his first CD, Whispers in the Wind. Tom is a Boston-area singer/songwriter. This is a collection of original songs with a strong traditional sense. Tom has an amazing voice and can he ever bring across a love song, tell an epoch tale! I find myself singing lines throughout my day. Listen to clips from Tom’s recording and let me know what you think.

Twin From Another Tribe
“Authors and Spiritual Twins, Michael Ortiz Hill and Mandaza Augustine Kandemwa, have both touched my life personally. Through Mandaza I learned to better understand my profound connection to the element of water. Michael’s teachings led me to teach the Oracle Deck Workshops. I am so grateful to them both. For an intimate look at how life looks when one “allows” and trusts Spirit, venture into their stories. We are all connected!”

The Village of The Water Spirits
Michael Ortiz Hill tells where his fascination with the dreams of African Americans led him. “Weaving scholarship and interviews with the Shona medicine man, Mandaza Augustine Kandemwa, Ortiz Hill offers the recognitions that, at the most intimate level, Africa has kept faith with the African-American soul.”

Forgive for Good
This is a MUST READ for anyone who has hurts, resentments or grudges hanging around. Luskin combines solid research he did at Stanford with moving stories. Heal your own stuff, then pass it on. Learning to forgive is good for your health!

The HeartMath Solution
The HeartMath Solution is a fabulous explanation and "How To" book for people who would like to reduce their stress. Constant stress responses in the body lead to poor health and a lack of joy. The HeartMath folks explain the physiology and give easy to learn ideas for creating a solution. Support is available through their institute, books and CD's, too.

Transforming Anxiety
Transforming Anxiety is an amazing book filled with startling information about the habit of anxiety that so many of us have unconsciously developed. The authors offer clear and simple instructions to calm our inner worries and free us from the anxious thoughts that keep popping up in our heads.

Put Your Heart on Paper
An inspiring selection of reasons to write and creative ways to do so. This book is all about using the written word to build and strengthen relationships and create healing. I have used many of these ideas in my family and in my practice.

The Teenage Liberation Handbook
The Teenage Liberation Handbook: How To Quite School And Get A Real Life And Education is for everyone who has ever gone to school or is interested in the current national debate over educational reforms, but it is especially relevant for teenagers and the parents or caregivers of teens. The Teenage Liberation Handbook presents some good reasons to think about quitting school, how to reclaim a natural ability to learn and become self-taught, how to get parental support and stay out of legal trouble, how to design a personalized education worth getting excited about, how to go to college without first going to highschool, how to find volunteer positions and/or apprenticeships and/or other work opportunities, and what other unschooled teens do with their time. As with most things in life, there's a right way and a wrong way -- The Teenage Liberation Handbook is a blueprint for the best way!
